Jesús Bazán Villicaña, BS

Jesús is an MD/PhD student in the Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis program. He received degrees in Microbiology and Neuroscience from Indiana University in 2018. His current research in the lab of Scott Hultgren focuses on genetic mechanisms in uropathogenic E. coli that underlie urinary tract infections. He has experience designing graphical abstracts and scientific schema and would be happy to assist with all forms of scientific graphic design!

Mandy Chan, BS

Mandy is currently a PhD student in the Immunology program. She received her BS in Chemistry with magna cum laude from Emory University in 2018. For her undergraduate honor thesis, she characterized Aβ peptide-DNA interaction in Dr. David Lynn’s lab. Her current research in Dr. Joel Schilling’s lab focuses on Kupffer cell metabolism and lysosomal function during non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. She is experienced in generating high quality scientific figures and illustrations for publications and presentations.

Lorraine Hu, MA

Lorraine is a PhD candidate in the Anthropology department where her research focuses on the diversification of burial practices of early pastoralists in East Africa (c. 3000-1000 years ago). Her dissertation focuses on reconstructing cremation processes by integrating sedimentological and osteological analyses to explore questions regarding pyre technology, temporality, and body treatment. In addition to archaeology, she loves illustration, teaching, and hiking.

Abigail “Abby” Kimball, BA

Abby is a graduate student in the Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis program. Her research in Dr. David Sibley’s lab focuses on the genetic and molecular characterization of the life cycle of the protozoan parasite Cryptosporidium. She loves working with researchers to design graphical abstracts and scientific schema!

Taeho Lee, MS

Taeho is a Physics graduate student in Dr. Janice Robertson’s lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics. He received his BS in Nano-science from Chiba University in Chiba, Japan and graduated in three years under the mentorship of Dr. Kazuyuki Sakamoto. He also received his MS in Applied Physics from Osaka University in Osaka, Japan, working in the Nano-photonics lab of Dr. Satoshi Kawata. After spending five years in Japan, he joined the lab of Dr. Janice Robertson to conduct his PhD research. He now studies thermodynamics and kinetics of membrane protein assembly in lipid membranes using homo-dimeric Cl-/H+ antiporter CLC-ec1 as a model system. Outside of his research, he is also interested in photography, illustration, and color psychology.

Catie Newsom-Stewart, BS

Catie is a graduate student in the Developmental, Regenerative and Stem Cell Biology program. She received her BS in Biology from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania and graduated with honors after completing her thesis under the excellent mentorship of Dr. Eric Ho and Dr. Robert Kurt. After spending 1.5 years as a technician in the single-cell biology lab of Dr. Samantha Morris, she now studies melanocyte development and melanoma pathogenesis in the lab of Dr. Charles Kaufman. Outside of her scientific interests, she is passionate about writing, illustration, and education and is excited to combine these passions and pursue a career in scientific communication.
